Access All Areas

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Recording can take me anywhere, quite literally, so it’s important for me to be able to access all of my software and sample effects whenever I’m not at home. For example, I was doing some work for a friend last week, nothing major, just helping him out with an edit. Anyway, I had my laptop on me, but needed some clips from my main server.

Luckily, I’d remembered to set up a virtual private network, which means I can access all of the stuff that’s on my server without physically being there. It’s going to be a real blessing later on in the year when I’m at the Budapest Autumn Festival later in the year.

My year’s turning out to be pretty jam-packed, come to think of it. It’s a shame that Benicassim didn’t work out, but the (top secret) project it’s been trumped for should be well worth sacking it off. I’m also working on getting a United season ticket from a mate who’s selling his so, if that comes to fruition, I’ll be giving up my Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays! For a good cause, mind ;)

In saying that, the rest of this week isn’t looking too busy, so I’ll get to catch up on my reading. What’s catching my eye at the moment? Well, it’s funny you should ask…

This is a bit of throw-away fun, but it’s great for a music buff like me. Lots of bits of trivia to impress with down the pub (I know most it though, sadly!). Hey, here’s hoping it’ll propel our pub team to pub quiz victory the next time we’re down there on a Thursday!

Been listening to this a lot recently. Recently made me think about what’s been going on about Our Club.

Join MUST.

Sunny days are here again

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

Well, the sun is out and once more I find myself embracing another period of (slightly) nicer weather from my recording studio. C’est la vie – this is what I’ve chosen to do with my life and I do love it. Looking through my Google calendar I see I have a band coming in, all under the age of 20. Unbelievable – that means they were born in the 1990s! Me, I was just boring in the 1990s!

They probably don’t even know who David Bowie is. If they don’t, they should watch this:

Other plans I have over the summer include going to the Primavera festival in Barcelona. It should be a good laugh, away with the lads again! Don’t think I’ve been to a festival since Glasto in 2002? Wow, it seems so far ago. Needless to say, many beers were drunk by all of us!

Looking to the World Cup

I don’t normally get excited about the World Cup. I think this is because I’m more of a United fan than an England fan, purely because most England fans hate us, so why should I feel solidarity with them once every few months?

However, I’ve tasted a truly international sense of competition in the last few days, purely through playing online bingo games at home. It’s great, because you get to represent England (in a way) against players from Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.

It reminds me of my nephew’s Xbox, where he can play people from all around the world on his football game, but bingo is a bit more accommodating to an old fogey like me!

Anyway, I need to go now and have a fiddle with my SDSL line. I’m trying to reroute it around my new desk – I don’t half make life difficult for myself sometimes!

Dear Premier League title,

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

The last three years we’ve spent together have been great. Unbelievable highs and, to be honest, very few lows. The moments we shared were some I will never forget, up there with our hot European nights. However, like all good things, we must come to an end.

It’s not that I don’t want us to be together for a fourth year – I want it more than ever. It’s just that I know that you’ve been making eyes at another, and that your heart is not where it needs it to be in order to stay with me. Quite simply, it is time to go.

You were never a trophy partner to me. I always loved and respected you greatly, regardless of how good you looked on my arm. It was real between us.

This will not be easy, and the empty road down which I now travel is littered with pain and regret, but I know it’s a path I had to go down one day. I need to move on from you.

Who knows? Maybe we will meet up again in the future and laugh about all of this? Maybe the love that we once shared can be rekindled? Maybe it can, but not today. Maybe once a year has passed…

I will try and move on, forget about your shiny features and the way you felt to hold, but I can’t promise you that I will be OK. I won’t be OK, for a long time, but it’s necessary if we’re to get over this.

So go to Chelsea, enjoy Chelsea. But know that our love is deep and pure and that, despite what you may feel right now, you will be back in my arms before you realise.

With all my love,

Manchester United
Xx

P.S. COME ON WIGAN!
